Normally this time of year, we are talking about prepping our homes for April showers or Spring home maintenance tips, but this “Spring” hasn’t exactly been “normal.” It’s been snowy and very cold. We realize this weather, doesn’t lend itself to want to jump start on that Spring home remodel project you’ve been thinking about. However, we highly recommend you do. We swear we aren’t just saying this out of our own self-interest. Okay, maybe a little. But, the reality is the weather we’re experiencing this Spring not only affects anyone planning a Spring home improvement project, but it’ll trickle into Summer and Fall projects as well. So, if you are planning a Spring, Summer or Fall home remodel project, we suggest you start now. Here’s why:
1. Takes Time.
While every project timeline is different, click here for a general breakdown for how long a home remodel will take. One thing to keep in mind is if your project will require making various selections (cabinets, countertops, paint, etc.), make sure you set aside time to do so. We suggest planning to take a half day off of work; allowing for time to visit the showrooms and make decisions. We’re also happy to help with the selection process if desired.
2. Late Spring = Contractors Booked Out.
This is an important one. In Minnesota, we have what feels like a brief window where the ground is thawed and there is no snow. The delayed Spring results in an even shorter construction season. Sure, we might have a nice long Fall (fingers crossed!), but no guarantees. Contractors and subcontractors are likely going to be booked out, so it is smart to get on their calendar sooner than later. This is not meant to scare anyone, but simply some helpful advice.
3. Something to Look Forward to.
Updating your home is exciting! Having a new porch, kitchen, windows, etc. is something to look forward to. We all likely have spent more time in our homes so far this year, so it is nice to spruce it up with a small or large home improvement project.
4. Lock in Price.
The price of material can fluctuate (read: increase) fairly regularly. Whether you plan to start your project immediately or in a few months, you can lock in your quoted price now and eliminate the risk of a price increase.
5. More Time to Enjoy.
The sooner you start your home remodel project, the sooner it will be completed and the more time you can enjoy!
